News from The Vale

The Stones go into the match hoping to put last weekend’s 4-1 defeat to the ten men of Kidderminster Harriers firmly behind them.

Signs of a positive response were evident in midweek as they outclassed Stoke City U21s scoring six unanswered goals to pick up their first win of this season’s National League Cup.

Summer signing Wilson Waweru scored a hat trick and provided an assist to pick up the man of the match award.

After the match, assistant manager Danny Payne said, “We were in a bad place on Saturday, we knew it wasn’t acceptable, but the reaction from the group and the way that they trained yesterday was the best that we have seen this season.

“Tonight was about resetting and getting back to being what we were against Carlisle and Sutton. I thought we did that and we approached the game really well.”

The Stones will be without last season’s Isuzu FA Trophy semi-final hero, Micah Obiero after it was announced on Thursday that the forward had signed for Carlisle United.

Speaking to club media after the striker’s departure, Wealdstone Chairman Rory Fitzgerald said, “We did everything in our power to keep Micah, I had numerous conversations with him and so did Gary.

“Unfortunately, Micah decided that he wanted a new challenge, he has a desire to play in the Football League, and he felt that he would have a better opportunity to do that by going up to Carlisle.”

Dion Conroy and Admiral Muskwe remain absent, but Jack Cook started in Tuesday’s win and will be available for selection on Saturday.

The Opposition

The Pilgrims were also in National League cup action in midweek, losing to West Bromwich Albion U21’s by a single goal on Tuesday evening.

They have made a mixed start to their Enterprise National League campaign, picking up wins over Solihull Moors and Altrincham, but are now on a run of three games without a win.

Boston United have added to their squad in the build-up to the match, bringing in loanees Georgie Ghent and Ollie Bostock from Barnsley and West Bromwich Albion respectively.

The sides have faced each other competitively on four previous occasions with The Stones winning one, The Pilgrims winning two and one match ending in in a draw.

Wealdstone’s last win over Boston United came in the Enterprise National League in April 2025. Alex Reid scored the only goal as The Stones picked up a then vital 3 points as they moved out of the relegation zone.
