REACTION: “It’s About Sticking Together” – Olomola’s Boston boost

SCORER of the second of Wealdstone’s three goals during a fine awayday victory, Olufela Olomola hailed the way the team stuck together as a desperate Boston United pushed for a way back into the game.

“I said in the changing-room before the game there’ll be moments we’re going to have to suffer – and we did,” said the forward, who scored the first of two quick-fire goals mid-way through the second 45 to seal all three Enterprise National League points for the Stones.

“A home team is always going to have a spell of pressure and some chances, you accept that as part of awaydays.

“Dante’s come up big with the penalty save and we’ve gone and got ourselves a two-goal lead after that.

“Then it’s about sticking together and seeing it through the tough times.”

The words of a leader before the game from Olomola? Maybe so; his manager Gary Waddock said his was an outstanding performance and that he sets the standards in training.

Smiled Olomola: “It’s something that’s kind of just naturally happened, giving more of a lead within the group, I guess because I’m vocal on and off the pitch.

“I’m more than happy to take that responsibility. I love this club and I love the players.

“I enjoy helping other lads get the best out of their game when I’m on the pitch.”

And with Micah Obiero leaving for Carlisle United in the week, it’s a chance for “Wealdstone’s number 9” (in the words of his song) to shine.

“Micah provided a real threat for this team, so now it’s about others stepping up – and that includes me.

“Unfortunately we lost Luke to an injury just before today. It’s a shame, as he’s massive for the team.

“But I thought me and Jayden (Harris) worked it well up there today.”

Olomola has made a bright start to the campaign, with two league goals both from arriving with good timing inside the six-yard box.

Looking sharper than last term, he credits having got a full pre-season behind him for a positive beginning.

“Not having a pre-season last year really affected my start and maybe I didn’t catch up as I’d have liked,” he said.

“But this year I’ve come back in and had a full pre-season and I feel I’m working towards getting back to my best.

“I’m on the pitch to affect the game at the top end of the pitch and I think I’ve been able to do that when I’ve been involved.”
