Defender Mason Barrett faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after scans confirmed he requires surgery on a ruptured ACL sustained during Tuesday night’s match at Forest Green Rovers.
The injury is another cruel setback for Barrett, who has endured a difficult run of injuries in recent seasons.
Reacting to the news, manager Gary Waddock said:
“We are all gutted for Mason. He’s a top guy and was getting back to his best form. He’ll get every support from all of us.
“He’s a strong character and a great person.”
Wealdstone chairman Rory Fitzgerald echoed those sentiments.
“I’m devastated for Mason,” he said.
“He’s been through a lot of injuries in his career up to this point, which is just so unlucky. He’s a Rolls-Royce of a defender when he’s fully fit.
“Having unfortunately had a similar experience already, Mason will know the process and, with his mental strength, he will get back playing again.
“We wish him a speedy recovery and will look to support Mason however we can.”
